AI is not something new to us. In fact, if anything it’s become more prevalent in recent months. Amazon are not ones to be left behind and at the recent AWS re:Invent 2023, Adam Selipsky announced a brand new AI assistant; Amazon Q.

What is Amazon Q?

Ever wondered if there was a generative AI-powered assistant that could be tailored to your business? Essentially, that’s what Amazon Q does. Depending on your business needs, it can help you get fast answers to questions, solve problems, generate content and take actions based on the data and expertise found in your company’s information repositories, code and enterprise systems. It can even complete certain tasks, such as:

  • Filing
  • Summarising long documents
  • Drafting emails and articles
  • Conducting research
  • Comparative analysis

The goal of the assistant is to help you streamline tasks, save you time and ultimately spark creativity. The best thing about it is it’s all personalised to your business, including tailoring to employees roles and permissions. Security and privacy seems to be an important element that Amazon are hammering home here – certainly something a lot of businesses would be prioritising when considering adopting new technologies in their business.

When will Amazon Q be launching?

Looking at the Amazon Q website, it still appears to be in the preview stages. During the preview stage, Amazon Q will be available as two pricing plans – Business and Builder. It seems the pricing structure and details of each plan are still in the works, but here’s what we know:

  • Business – $20 per user/month – Your business expert that can help you solve problems, generate content, find insights in data and take actions based on your company’s data, information and systems
  • Builder – $25 per user/month – All the benefits of the Business plan plus an AWS expert that can transform the way that developers and IT professionals build, optimize and operate applications

Whilst in the preview stages, many of the Amazon Q capabilities are available without any charge, but looking at the pricing it seems it may only be available in the US for the initial launch. More details on these plans can be found here.

So what do we think? It’s certainly an exciting step in progressive AI and seeing how it can be useful to businesses, but how successful will it be? Only time will tell.
