Amazon FBA: Now ship products in your own brand packaging!

Are you an Amazon FBA seller? Have you been asking FOREVER to be able to use your own brand packaging? Well, Amazon have listened! You can now send your products in your own custom designs with Ships in Product Packaging.

What you need to know about Amazon SIPPS?

This brand new FBA feature, formerly Ships in Own Container (SIOC), offers Amazon FBA sellers the opportunity to deliver their products to buyers in their own custom brand packaging without any Amazon-added material. The program is open to sellers in the US, UK, Canada, France, Italy, Germany and Spain.

It costs nothing to join the program, but there may be associated costs with updating your packaging or for products that are fragile or contain sharp objects and liquids.

What are the benefits?

There are many benefits to joining Amazon SIPPS. These include:

  • Saving on fulfilment fees You’ll automatically pay lower fees, saving between €0.01 – €4.83 per unit
  • Creating a stronger brand identity Customise your packaging to display to customers upon delivery
  • Contributing to sustainable living Create packaging with less material, minimising space needed on delivery trucks, meaning fewer trucks required and, ultimately, lower carbon emissions

How do I enrol to use my own brand packaging?

There are a number of requirements and enrolment steps that need to be followed before you can update your brand packaging.

Firstly, you need to review your catalogue of products and their eligibility in the program portal which can be found here. You then need to choose whether you should use flexible or rigid packaging. Each one has very specific requirements.

A large part of using your own brand packaging is the testing. During enrolment of your product, you need to complete a test report – this is literally a test of the packaging to make sure it’s strong enough to withstand a standard Amazon FBA journey, along with pre-test and post-test photos. You must perform a physical performance test through a self-conducted drop test or send it to an ISTA 6 lab.

To make things easier, you can group similar products together and certify them with a single test report. Grouping should be based on weight, size, material, packaging type and specifications, product to packaging ratio and package quantity. Make sure when you test, you pick the largest or heaviest product in the group.
